“Grok spicy mode” is one of the most searched adult AI terms in the US, and for a simple reason: it is the only big-name assistant that openly ships an adult-leaning mode. But almost everything about it changed between the August 2025 launch and today. Here is where it stands, with sources.
What Grok Spicy mode is
Grok is xAI’s assistant. It includes Imagine, which makes images and short videos “from text prompts or reference photos”, at up to 2K resolution and 15 seconds, according to xAI’s product page. Imagine has several generation modes; Spicy is the one that allows more suggestive output, for adults who opt in.
It is a generator, not a companion. Grok does not keep a character between conversations the way OurDream AI or SpicyChat do, and Spicy mode is about images and clips rather than roleplay.
What changed since launch
- August 5, 2025. Grok Imagine launches with a Spicy mode. The Verge shows on day one that it produces sexualized content of celebrities.
- January 9, 2026. After a wave of sexualized edits of women and minors posted on X, Grok image generation on X is limited to paying subscribers (TechCrunch).
- January 14-15, 2026. xAI says it has blocked editing images of real people into revealing clothing where that is illegal (BBC, Reuters). Regulators in several countries open investigations.
- March 2026. Several sources report the end of free access to Imagine.
- November 4, 2026. grok.com lists Imagine in its paid plans, starting with Plus.
The takeaway: guides promising that Spicy mode “does anything” usually describe a version that no longer exists.

How to turn Spicy mode on
Based on Grok’s public replies on X and guides published in 2026, Spicy mode needs four things:
- A paid plan that includes Imagine.
- An adult account. Some countries add age verification; in the UK, third-party guides describe a birth-year prompt and ID or selfie checks.
- Sensitive content allowed in your settings (on X: Settings, Privacy and safety, Content you see).
- Usually, the mobile app. Several guides say the web version no longer shows Spicy in many regions.
xAI does not publish a complete reference page for this, and the conditions move fast. If the option does not appear, check your plan and age settings first.
What Spicy mode still refuses
Anything involving minors, editing real people into revealing or sexual content, and content illegal where you are. Expect Grok to soften some requests that adult-first tools would simply render. It is built to be “spicy” within the brand risk of a mainstream assistant, not to be an adult studio.
Grok Imagine spicy prompts that work
There is no magic phrase that lifts Grok’s rules. What changes results is structure:
- The subject: a fictional character, clearly adult, in two or three traits.
- The scene: place, time, light (“hotel balcony at night, city lights, warm lamp from inside”).
- Style and framing: realistic photo or illustration, close-up or medium shot.
- Motion, for video: one slow action. Multiple actions warp.
